This is the earliest known example of a textile featured in a painting where both the painting and the textile still exist, 1610 :N.D.L.R. : Contemporain de la Chaslerie.

They are in the Victoria and Albert museum in London and have been verified as the same. The identity of the portrait artist is unknown :Originally embroidered at Layton Hall Rawdon Leeds Yorkshire by Mrs Layton who lived there.
Mrs Layton was, I think, Lady in Waiting to Elizabeth 1st.
Bit ironic don't you think ? A dress on a headless manikin, in front of a painting of a woman that lost her head !
